PedEd

PedEd is used for semi-automatic conversion and preprocessing of floorplans into the simulation format. It therefor significantly reduces the time needed for an evacuation analysis. Vectororientated files in dxf-format can be imported and in near future, xml-formatted files will be supported too. This format will be open, so everybody can already do some preprocessing by himself, using the script language of his CAD-tool.
Because CAD-drawings of tall buildings can be very big in size, we have split PedGo into the simulation and the editor program. The benefit of this is a very lean simulation part, so high simulation speeds can be achieved. Because the number of Editor-licences is unlimited, this also allows you to do the preprocessing on various computers, while the most powerful machine is doing the simulations.

The color-coding-dialog of PedEd. Here you can asign a property to each color.

When importing a dxf-file, the Editor registers the colors of all elements. In a special dialog (see the screenshot below), a property can be assigned to each color, so in the next step, the Editor can automatically transform this data into the appropriate cell information. Passenger numbers in the dxf-drawing are correctly interpreted and the appropriate number of persons is added in the defined room.

The floorplan can be further edited. Elements can be moved, deleted or new ones can be drawn. Passengers and crew can also be added. Next to this, various egress routes can be assigned and the people using them. Along these routes, the Editor automatically spreads the potentials. An egress route can be seen as a self-contained layer, by which the person following this route orientates.

The egress routes are self-contained and therefor not interacting. A person always orientates by one route.

Additionally it is possible to define groups. Group definitions enable to assign different parameters to the simulated persons. One group can consist of one or more persons. The group definitions are listed in the results, so it is furthermore easier to backtrack certain persons in the simulation.

System requirements

PedEd has only small requirements for your system. You should at least use:

  • System: Microsoft Windows '95, '98, NT 4.0, 2000, XP, Vista or 7
  • CPU: minimum an Intel Pentium with 90 MHz
  • Memory: 128 MB RAM is sufficient for large vessels and facilities
  • Graphics: XGA with 24bit color depth and a resolution of 1024x768
