PedGo

PedGo is our software to simulate evacuations of pedestrians. The basics of the model were developed in the research project BYPASS. We at TraffGo HT implemented the scientific results into this userfriendly and fast software. In fact, as far as we know, PedGo is the fastest program to simulate evacuations available on the market (10.000 persons in real time on a 500MHz PIII). This way, our customers can save valuable time to do many evacuation runs, which are mandatory for statistical evacuation analyses.

Basics

The model used in PedGo is a so called microscopic simulation model, meaning that the decision and the movement of every single person is simulated. In order to do this, we use a multi-agent-model in discrete time and space. Therefore, the floor plan of the investigated building is subdivided into quadratic cells with a side length of 0.4 meters. They represent the space a person occupies when standing in a queue. The direction in which a person has to move in order to reach her destination is contained in the cells. So when moving, a person first orientates by this cellinformation and then jumps from one cell to the next, evading obstacles and other persons.

A room and a small corridor as a simplified example. The geometry is transformed into cellular information. Next to free cells, the following celltypes are used: walls, doors, stairs. From the appointed exits, potentials spread according to the given egressroutes. The gradient of the blue color marks the potential value.

Components
Until now the software package PedGo consists of the three different programs PedGo, PedEd and PedView. Each program of the package runs without installation. The functions of the programs are explained on the following websites.
